aperture

The iris-like opening inside the lens barrel that determines how much light passes through the lens. See also f-stop.

Aperture Priority mode (A, Av mode)

The user sets the aperture and the camera sets the shutter speed. The user can also adjust the white balance, ISO, focus methods, EV compensation, and other settings. Recommended for portraits, group, macro, and landscape photography.
