Final Thoughts

It wasn't until I began to understand the magnitude of Alzheimer's disease that I realized we are neglecting our most valuable resource: our brainpower. The brain not only controls the day-to-day operations of the human system, it is home to our sense of self, our personality, and our soul. If you've experienced the devastation of seeing a loved one suffer from brain disease you are well aware of how quickly you can be robbed of the person you once knew. Kind, gentle, patient family members and friends seem to transform into irritated, angry, and sometimes mean strangers in a familiar looking body. Change the brain and you change the being—positively or negatively.

When you see how clearly we depend on our brains it seems obvious that we should be taking all possible measures to protect this critical asset. Yet our current lifestyle not only opens the door for brain disease and disorder, it actually fuels brain destruction! Too much stress and not enough recovery literally speeds up the deterioration process of our brain and our body. Eating processed foods and toxins, being sedentary, and losing our sense of connection with the world around us wears away at the structure of the brain, compromising our ability to function at our best.
