Sun Tzu might well have been talking about change; the standard approach is to launch a program, and then hope to win hearts, minds, and behaviors. I contend that the change “war” ought to be won before the project begins—sound change strategy in a change-agile business. No amount of masterful change tactics will fix a merger that is strategically doomed to fail. A change-agile organization will have fewer apathetic or recalcitrant stakeholders to manage.
