Don’t let your parents control your feelings

When we’re growing up, we’re programmed to care what our parents think. Otherwise why would we do what they say? When we reach our teens we may choose to rebel by doing the opposite of what they want, but underneath it all we still want their love and approval.

Childhood programming goes deep. And it can be very hard to switch it off once we’re grown up. Even when you’re a 45-year-old company director, you may well find yourself feeling like a small pathetic failure when your mother criticizes you, or your father refuses to acknowledge your achievements.
