Leave the kids out of it

Let’s be clear about this. There are absolutely no circumstances under which it is ever justified to involve the children in your break-up or the aftermath. They are going through a horribly traumatic time already, and they don’t need you to add to it by using them to make yourself feel better. They are the only totally innocent parties, and they don’t deserve even the tiniest bit of extra stress.

So what does that mean exactly? What is it that you might be tempted to do that you mustn’t? Well, for a start, no using the kids as ammunition. Don’t try to get at your partner by restricting their access to the children, or by playing games over when you’re free to visit.
