In-laws are part of the package

If you’re very lucky, you’ll have delightful in-laws who you get on famously with. I’ve done that this time round, and count them among my closest friends. But that’s rare. Far more often, you’ll have in-laws who cause you stress and frustration, at least from time to time. And not only parents-in-law of course, but brothers- and sisters-in-law and all the rest of the extended family.

The thing about in-laws is that just like your own family, you didn’t choose them. Only this time, you can’t get away with speaking your mind to them so easily, and you don’t have the benefit of the underlying affection that’s generally there with your own family despite any friction.
