Be honest (while you still have the chance)

We all have things in our life that we’re not especially proud of, or that we don’t enjoy remembering. Maybe we’re even ashamed of what we’ve done or who we’ve been. If your life was a book, you’d skip that chapter.

It’s not surprising that when you meet someone new, you don’t immediately want to confess all the bits of your past that you’d rather forget. That’s fine, you don’t need to – yet. But if you’re going to stay with this person, sooner or later they’re going to need to know about that dodgy period where you got into a bit of trouble with the police, or about the abortion, or the cross-dressing, or the fact that your father’s an alcoholic.
