You can’t choose who your children love

If you’re lucky, your child will choose a wonderful, charming partner who you get on fabulously with and are delighted to welcome into the family. But don’t count on it. If they do find someone fantastic, sod’s law they’ll probably split up.

If you have more than one child, the chances increase that at least one of them will choose to throw in their lot with someone you’re not overwhelmingly happy about. Maybe you’ll just find them a bit tricky, or mildly irritating. Perhaps you’ll really struggle to get along with them.
