Remember you’re their parent, not their teacher

Obviously you want your kids to do well at school, pass their exams with good grades and you may even be thinking ahead towards them getting a place at one of the better universities. So it can be really tempting to get heavily involved in their schooling – whether that’s checking what homework they’ve been given or wanting to add your knowledge to theirs.

One dad I know regularly asks his children what topics they’ve covered at school that week and then spends half the weekend trying to tell them everything he knows about the subject (which he’s sure is far more than the teachers know). What a brilliant way to turn your kids off learning and give them a severe case of overload.
