Understand that they don’t come from the same place as you

Do you ever think about how different your children’s lives are from your own? I do. I look back on a childhood without computers, mobile phones, umpteen TV channels. We spent half our lives out of doors (at least in memory). Teachers were allowed to tell us exactly what they thought of us, and parents would smack us if we misbehaved. It was a world apart. And a Mars bar only cost sixpence.

Now look further, back into the dim past that was your parents’ childhood. They probably had to darn their own socks, walk everywhere and risk getting caned at school if they forgot their homework. Alright, maybe your parents weren’t born as long ago as mine, but you get the point.
