They’re new to this too

We go through childhood assuming that our parents know what they’re doing. After all, being a parent is what they do, so obviously they must be competent at it. It’s only when you become a parent yourself that you discover that most of us are making it up as we go along. At least with the first child. And just when you think you might be getting the hang of it, they enter a new age. Baby, toddler, pre-schooler, infant, junior, teenager – at each stage you’re still a novice because you’ve never had a child that age before.
