Find each child’s strengths

Rule 49 was about making sure your child knows they’re good at something. That’s essential, and especially so when you have more than one child. One thing you can guarantee is that they’ll have very different strengths.

Gifts and talents often run in families. It may well be that if one of your kids is musically talented, or hugely athletic, or deeply artistic, or brilliantly academic, so are their siblings. Even so, it can be tough being a bassoonist whose older sister is a more advanced bassoonist. Maybe your younger child would feel they could succeed better as a cellist or a flautist. You need to encourage these small differences so that everyone can shine.
