Don’t have a favourite

Admitting to having a favourite child is actually one of the great taboos. Lots of people will simply tell you, ‘You mustn’t have a favourite’. Well, I’m sure that would be lovely, but maybe you can’t help it. Some parents really have no trouble with this one. They just aren’t made that way and they couldn’t have a favourite if they tried. Others, however, simply can’t help preferring one child to another, and if they said they didn’t have a favourite, they’d be lying.

If this is the case, lying is unquestionably the answer. Under no circumstances should you ever reveal who is your favourite child to anyone, except possibly your partner. And to avoid revealing it, you may have to lie and claim you have no favourite. ...
