Give them each other

I think this is the most important sibling Rule of all, and it’s the guiding Rule for all the others. So listen closely. The most important thing you can ever do for your children is give them the best possible relationships with each other.

There are plenty of ways of bringing up siblings, from deliberately dividing them right through to consciously bonding them together. And if you aim for the latter, your children will be each other’s very closest friends for life. And, once they’re adults, they will need equal siblings as much as they need parents who are, inevitably, not equals (not that we’re superior, but the relationship isn’t, and shouldn’t be, balanced; see Rule 102 before you start arguing with me).
