Enjoy their company

If you baulked slightly when you read this Rule, I understand. In fact, I’ll be the first to admit that there are times this one can be tough. But then, there are times you’re not in the mood for your favourite movie or music or chocolate.*

Don’t panic. This Rule doesn’t mean you always have to be in the right mood to hang out with your kids. All I’m saying is that when you get a chance to relax with them – at weekends, on holiday, reading a bedtime story – it’s important to enjoy being with them.

Why wouldn’t you? Well, because you’re always thinking of what else you could be doing, or the long list of chores you need to be getting on with instead of listening to the entire plot of yesterday’s episode of The Simpsons ...
