You don’t have to follow every piece of advice you get (including this one)

What was it your mother told you? You have to wind the baby every ten minutes during a feed. Oh, and your mother-in-law said it’s much better to buy clothes that don’t go on over their head. And of course your best friend advised against getting a Moses basket. Although your brother-in-law said theirs was a lifesaver … aaargh!

And that’s just the beginning. The amount of advice you get hit with when you have a new baby is terrifying. And 18 years later it still won’t have stopped: ‘Oh you don’t want them to go to university. Waste of time – tell them to get a job instead.’ Or, ‘You want to get them out of the house now they’re 18 or they’ll still be there when ...
