Set up a strong culture

You’re not working for a big corporation now. Or a small one. You’re not working for anyone. You are the boss, the top banana, the head honcho, the big cheese, commander-in-chief. You call the shots.

Sooner or later, when your business grows, you’ll actually have people working for you. You’ll be employing staff of your own. Maybe one part-timer to begin with, then later on a few full-timers, and eventually you might have layers of management under you. All very gratifying, even if you’re not an egomaniac.

It’s going to be a gradual process. You won’t necessarily notice it happening – you’ll just wake up one day and realize that while you’ve been thinking about other things, you’ve become a people manager. You ...
