Have a mission

What are mission statements all about then? Just self-indulgent bits of marketing twaddle? Or do they actually serve some purpose? Until I first ran my own business, I’d looked at mission statements from other companies and been deeply cynical about them. And indeed some of them are badly thought through and churned out for PR purposes in a way that deserves all the scepticism any of us can muster.
