Emotions can be triggered in the blink of an eye and by the subtlest of cues. Their impact on our performance is profound and sometimes lasting. I’ve been the receiver of respect many times over and benefited from its after-glow. I’ve also tasted my share of disrespect and was sent into a downward spiral of anger, frustration, fear, or apathy. Simply paying attention to how others’ behaviors impact us can help to keep our awareness of our own behaviors in clearer focus. It also reminds us of how inextricably linked to each other we will always be.
