About the Authors

Fred Vettese is Chief Actuary of Morneau Shepell, a position he has held since 1991. He has written op-eds for the National Post and Globe and Mail, and is frequently quoted regarding pension matters in various media. Fred is a prolific author of pension articles for a number of magazines and journals, and has presented at various national conferences such as the Conference Board of Canada and the Canadian Institute. He is the editor and primary contributor to Morneau Shepell's newsletter, Vision, which gives a high level overview of major trends and issues related to retirement. Fred is a member of the C.D. Howe Institute Pension Policy Council. He graduated from the University of Toronto, became an actuary in 1980, and is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA). Fred continues to provide consulting services to some of the firm's largest clients and also oversees professional standards for the firm's 150 actuaries.

Bill Morneau is Executive Chairman of Morneau Shepell. Under his leadership, the firm has become the largest Canadian human resources services firm, with over 2500 employees. Bill is Chair of the Board of Directors at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, and Chair of the Board of Directors at the C.D. Howe Institute. In May 2012, he was appointed by the Ontario Minister of Finance as Pension Investment Advisor, to lead in facilitating the pooling of public sector pension fund assets.
