Even though Bernard Madoff is safely ensconced in jail, business ethics will continue to be a hot topic in the news, and will likely remain top-of-mind for you as a manager. If someone in your company has violated a safety regulation, challenged a social more, or broken a law, it’s usually pretty obvious. You’ll need to keep clear and exhaustive written records of everything, in case anything is challenged legally. And keep your HR department and legal counsel in the loop regarding any potentially explosive issues. And as always, make sure your own behavior is above reproach. This is not the time for “do as I say, not as I do”!
