If you are appraising a recent hire or someone who’s having trouble catching on to the task at hand, this is likely where you will spend the bulk of your energy and time. Most employees will be strong in certain skills and not so strong in others, and it is your job to figure out which one is which. Of course, the value of each of these skills will be contingent on the industry you’re in. For example, although creativity may not necessarily be a valued commodity in IT, it is always needed when it comes to problem-solving and dealing with people. Context is key.
