Example Predictive Metrics

Predictive metrics are useful for developing a deeper understanding of the work and for comparing projects.

Predictive schedule metrics include:

  • Activity duration estimates

  • Project duration (calendar time)

  • Aggregated schedule risk, schedule reserve

  • Logical length (maximum number of activities, all paths)

  • Logical width (maximum number of parallel paths)

  • Logical project complexity (the ratio of activity dependencies to activities)

  • Project independence (ratio of internal dependencies to all dependencies)

  • Sum of all activity durations (if executed sequentially)

  • Sum of total project activity float

To assess project investment, identify predictive resource metrics, such as:

  • Cost estimates

  • Budget at completion

  • Total expected project ...
