Analyzing lessons learned may be done at any time, but it is most commonly performed as part of a project review or during administrative closure at the conclusion of a project. Schedule a meeting for process review soon after a phase of the project completes or the project ends to gather information while it is still fresh in people’s memory. Allocate sufficient time for the review. Even shorter projects may generate enough information to justify a half-day retrospective analysis.

Verify that team members and others who should participate will be available, and get their commitment to attend. Face-to-face meetings are best, but for virtual teams, use the best meeting technology available.
