What is this about and why is it important?
Projects have a limited scope. You could argue that they must have a limited scope, or else they might never end. The scope of a project is not a given, but is a choice made in designing the project. Rarely, in defining the scope, is it possible to isolate the project completely from the effects of outside events.
External events can impact any project. Projects typically have dependencies on activities outside of the project manager’s direct control, and generally operate in environments which cannot be fully managed by the project team.
