A program is an organizational initiative that, to be realized, will consist of several projects, each of which is independently justified and managed, while still contributing to the initiative. An example is an e-commerce program, which may consist of a project to establish a corporate web site, followed by one to make inventory information available to customers, followed by one to allow on-line ordering, followed by one to permit customers to track order fulfillment status.
