Level 4. Project Director

The project director is responsible for managing large, complex projects that are broken into components, each with a project manager.

The project team usually consists of more than fifty participants. The project director, who reports to a line manager or a program manager (defined below), is not responsible for producing project deliverables.

During project planning, the project director compiles the project plan from information provided by the project managers who retain responsibility for project staffing and resource leveling. The project director's primary responsibilities are to establish and enforce the direction of the project and to be the primary contact between the project and the customer.
