Project Control Facilities

One support function that a project office can provide is a means of tracking project progress. This involves some facility such as a spreadsheet or time recording database in which a project manager can enter the list of project activities and their efforts at the start of the project. Then, as the project moves forward, the weekly time spent by activity will also be entered and the facility will calculate the time remaining for each activity.

While a spreadsheet is easy to set up, it does not readily lend itself to the various types of reporting that a project manager requires. Project management software provides some reporting facilities, but these are not always as flexible as they could be.
