The Education Path

The education of project managers should begin with the technical skills. Novice project managers need to learn how to construct project plans and to manage their execution before they can move into a leadership role. During this stage of a project manager's development, it is important to provide a more senior person who can act as a mentor and will also be available to step into the leadership and management roles when necessary. Project managers who complete a course in the technical skills are best assigned to team leadership roles, responsible for a part of a project under a senior project manager or for small projects under the guidance of a line manager.
