Stored Procedures

A stored procedure is a program that can be called from SQL. As with any other program, it can have parameters passed between the calling program and the called program and, in some instances, a result set can be returned. Just as with UDFs, the definition of a stored procedure is a simple matter with the iSeries Navigator GUI interface.

Stored procedures are used mostly in distributed applications, especially if disparate hardware or software platforms and/or environments are present. They are a relatively simple and effective way of distributing application logic and much more efficient than individual database requests between distributed systems.
