Triggers

Triggers are a means of implementing the enforcement of business rules through the database manager. Our existing applications are littered with programs that would benefit from the implementation of a trigger—just find that piece of code repeated in numerous programs that updates a field on file B whenever it adds a record to file A. A trigger program allows you to remove the logic from multiple programs and place it in one program that is automatically called whenever a record is added to file A. The added benefit is that the rule is now in place as new applications and interfaces are created that may add records to the file.
