The concept of source for a file object is not the same in DDL as it in DDS. DDS has a source-per-file object but DDL has one source for many objects. A DDL source consists of the SQL instructions issued when you use the GUI interfaces in iSeries Navigator. When you use the New → Table function, you are simply generating a number of DDL statements (most notably CREATE TABLE) that are run when you click OK.

An SQL script is the term given to an SQL “program.” In other words, it is a number of SQL statements stored in a source member that can be run as a program. Unlike RPG, COBOL, or CL an SQL script is not compiled, but rather it is interpreted when it is run.
