Accessing the IFS from Windows

One of the major benefits of the IFS is that it can be accessed from Windows without the necessity of installing special software on the PCs. You don’t even need iSeries Navigator. While this is primarily of enormous benefit to users, it can also prove very useful to the programmer.

There are two requirements to making the IFS accessible from windows: The iSeries NetServer server must be running, and shares must be defined for folders that you want to have available to Windows.

iSeries NetServer

To configure iSeries NetServer select Network → Servers → TCP/IP and then select Configuration or Properties from the context menu for iSeries NetServer, as shown in Figure 3.14.
