Structuring and delivering the feedback

Preparing your feedback in advance will really help to ensure that it is well thought out and helpful. Take time to set the meeting up with the right atmosphere and tone and use a structure so that you can be confident and assured throughout and ready to deal with whatever reaction you receive.

Focusing on rapport

When you are delivering feedback, you may find it helpful to ensure that you are in rapport with the other person and that they feel relaxed. To deepen rapport, remember to mirror particular aspects of the other person's body language and verbal communication. Make sure you do this subtly and don't just copy what they're doing or saying as this could be perceived as manipulative or insincere!
