Fail to prepare, prepare to fail

Microsoft estimates that there are 300 million PowerPoint users in the world, with an estimated 30 million presentations happening every day. Right now as you read this there are 1 million PowerPoint presentations being delivered somewhere in the world. I am sure there are also many thousands more using other presentation software too.

The reality is the majority of these presentations leave their audience feeling confused, frustrated or bored.

But why?

  • A presentation is not a written document read out in full.
  • A presentation is not you dumping what’s in your head at warp speed because you can’t find your point (probably because you haven’t prepared one) at a poor audience that can’t escape.
