PART ONE SETTING THE STAGE

CHAPTER THREE

A MODEL FOR PROFESSIONAL CONSULTING

This chapter presents an overview of the model we will use throughout the remainder of this book. The model is an organizing framework that simplifies and depicts the process of consulting as a set of logical steps needed to find business, produce solutions that exceed client expectations, and, in the process, build a successful consulting business. This chapter describes how consulting is a logical process with a defined set of roles, tasks, and competencies that constitute a continuous cycle of activity. Examples of the application of the model are shown in summary form at the end of the chapter.
