Chapter 33. A Guide for Technical Managers

A technical manager is someone who understands system administration work in depth. She knows what is involved in running a site and working with customers. She probably used to be a senior SA but has now taken on a supervisory role. She probably is still involved at some level in the technical aspects of running the site. Her role includes mentoring more junior SAs and helping them to develop both their technical and interpersonal skills. The members of her technical staff look to her to deal with red tape or roadblocks they may come across in the course of their work, so that they can focus on the technical issues.
