Chapter 11. Security Policy

Security entails much more than firewalls, intrusion detection, and authentication schemes. Although all are key components of a security program, security administrators also have to take on many different roles, and the skills for those roles are quite diverse. In this chapter, we look at all aspects of security and describe the basic building blocks that a company needs for a successful security program, some guiding principles, and some common security needs. We also briefly discuss how the approaches described here apply in various-size companies and mention some ways in which the approach you take to security may differ in an academic environment.
