18.7. Summary

Security incidents occur in even the best-run networks. The important thing to remember is that since network attacks are inevitable, how an organization reacts to those attacks is important.

The response to an attack should be swift, and it should follow a well-thought-out security escalation policy. The better the procedures in place to deal with different types of attacks, the easier it will be to stop the attackers before any real damage can be inflicted on the network.
