16.2. SNMP

SNMP is, by far, the most popular method of monitoring network devices. The reasons for SNMP’s popularity are threefold: modularity, scalability, and adaptability. A SNMP monitoring system (Figure 16.2) can be developed to gather as much information about a network as possible, or it can be used to gather only selected information.
