Appendix F Digital Light Meters and the Zone System

As you saw in the preceding chapters, analog spot meters are ideally suited for applying Zone System methods to the problems of calculating accurate exposures and determining the contrast of photographic subjects for development recommendations.

What makes the dials of these meters so useful is that they are designed to display a wide range of the EV numbers when you make a light reading so that it becomes very easy to visualize the relationships between these numbers and the exposures they correspond to. As explained in Chapter 7, it is even possible to attach Zone Scale decals to the meter dials so that you can see both the placements and the fallings of Zones in your scene at a glance.
