Chapter 10. Defect Taxonomies

A defect taxonomy provides a low-overhead means to learn about the kinds of errors being made in the product development process so that they can be analyzed to improve the process to reduce or eliminate the likelihood of the same kind of error being made in the future (in the current version of the product under development as well as in future versions of the product and other products). A defect taxonomy is a method of gathering indications of problem areas.
