Appendix E. A Modeling Process Case Study
The following study of Ben’s Burgers is based on the model of a small restaurant chain. The example is used in an IDEFO workshop to teach students how to develop IDEFO models. It is designed to provide practice in developing an IDEFO model, and it describes a realistic environment that is typical of what will be encountered in real environments. The information is presented as an interview with the owner of the restaurant chain who details his ideas for improvements. Your job is to listen, model the AS-IS operation, and identify as many improvements as possible, including those originally expressed by the owner. You may also wish to provide a TO-BE model showing a vision of future operations.
