As the old saying goes, “What good is money without health?” Surely it will be wonderful to perform a wide range of financial transactions on our mobile devices, but what difference will it make if we aren’t healthy enough to enjoy the benefits and conveniences afforded by our cool new technologies?

That’s why the promise of mobile health care is so alluring. It offers the vision of achieving wellness and health without spending lots of time in the doctor’s office, waiting to be examined. Imagine a world in which not only your mobile phone, but also your wristwatch, your clothing, your contact lenses, and even your toothbrush continuously help you monitor your health and collect critical data about your medical conditions.

In a truly connected mobile economy, doctors’ offices would become as obsolete as bank branches. The need for them would simply cease to exist because all the information your doctor would need to know about you and your condition in order to make the right diagnosis, recommend treatment, and prescribe the proper medication or therapy would be available through a mobile telecommunications network.
