The Best Friend

  • In a nutshell: “If you need a hug and a shoulder to cry on, the Best Friend is your person.”

I always begin with this combination during my seminars. I have them stand up and pronounce them to be “the nicest people in the room.” Best Friends always have their “spoons” ready to help others empty the crap out of their CTL container. They are the master counselors, the best at navigating the venting process. If you are having trouble and need someone to talk to, there is no better person than the Best Friend.

Best Friends are also steady, dependable contributors. They rarely make mistakes and work very well within a structured environment. They are comfortable with policies and procedures and respect the organization's processes and hierarchy.

Here are a few words that would describe the Best Friend:

  • Compassionate
  • Caring
  • Empathetic
  • Reliable
  • Consistent
  • Trustworthy
  • Patient
  • Tactful
  • Accurate
  • Steady
  • Methodical
  • Thorough

Is it any wonder that they are the Best Friend? Now, they do have their vulnerabilities. First, they can be a little stubborn. Their way of doing things minimizes mistakes, so they are generally surprised when someone tells them they're inaccurate. Here is a typical conversation that may ensue when someone accuses a Best Friend of a mistake.

Supervisor: Hey, Betty, you screwed up your paperwork.

Betty (Best Friend): What? ...
