A.4 Future Work: A Working Prototype and Further Development by Enviu

The second cycle of product development starts with the design of a new system that is a combination of the successful factors of previous designs. The new prototype (Figure A.1.1) includes a modular connection system, which enables the exchange of every part and measures the changed performance. Advanced sensor technology logs every change of temperature and pressure, so that correct understanding of all situations is possible. By a series of tests, the system will be improved bit by bit.

Since 2011, the concept of affordable cooling for BoP entrepreneurs, as generated in this SolarBear series of MSc graduation projects, has been adopted by the Dutch sustainable innovation organization Enviu. Enviu is now taking up the challenge to improve the cold chain in India, and is working on several concepts that will help Indian farmers to store and transport harvests in a more sustainable and profitable way, and reduce post-harvest losses.

The Enviu project will further investigate the technical and social solutions of improving the cold chain, of which adsorption technology as developed in SolarBear is one of the options.
