18.2. Gate Review Process

Portfolios, programs, and projects should be routinely reviewed to determine if they should be replanned, stopped, or terminated. Although this can be part of the monitoring and controlling processes, it is prudent to establish points, such as gate reviews, in the execution schedule for additional reviews. These gate reviews, which are built into the PBMM model, should be performed following completion of the initiating, planning, and execution processes to ensure that the project, program, or portfolio is on track and ready to move to the next step. The appropriate level of management approval is required before proceeding to the subsequent processes.
