Meaningful, relevant assessment and feedback are based on course learning objectives. For assessment to be accurate, students need to know what they are responsible for learning before they are assessed. Clearly stated learning goals, in the form of grading rubrics, are essential for learners to be able to successfully manage their learning strategies.
