IMPOSSIBLY DEEP
The laws of physics set limits to the depth of field possible with any particular lens. It doesn’t help the photography much to get into equations, but one occasion when you really notice these limits is in close-up. Practically, the closer you get to macro, the less depth of field you can expect. You may not want depth of field—see the following pages—but if you do, you can’t have it by normal means. This still life is not an extreme close-up, and yet there is no way to get front-to-back sharpness with a normal camera lens. So what about extraordinary means?
