VERTICAL LINES

This did not begin as an image about vertical lines. I was more interested in the clean geometric Icelandic architecture; but in the course of walking around to find the best viewpoint, I watched the play of light change. From here, the vertical planking and picket fence were catching the low sun intensely, and I was happy to let the crisp contrast take over the image. It may look like late afternoon, but this was June in Iceland, and it’s almost ten oclock in the evening. At this point, far from wanting to balance tones, I actively wanted strong contrast so that the vertical lines would dominate.
